DHT & Prostate Health: The Basics
If you've researched prostate-support supplements, you've probably seen the hormone DHT mentioned repeatedly.
Here is what DHT actually is, and why it's such a common reference point in this product category.
What DHT actually is
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a hormone derived from testosterone via an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. It plays a normal role in male development but is also linked to prostate tissue growth over time.
Why elevated DHT matters
As men age, prostate tissue can gradually enlarge, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), partly linked to DHT's effects on prostate cells. This is why many prostate-support formulas reference the testosterone-to-DHT pathway.
Why supplements reference it so often
Certain botanical extracts, most notably saw palmetto, are studied for a potential role in moderating this conversion process — which is why DHT comes up across much of this supplement category's marketing, whether or not a specific product's formula is disclosed.
Applying this to ProstaIron
We could not confirm whether ProstaIron's own ingredients are intended to target the DHT pathway specifically, since no ingredient list is published. See our full label breakdown for what we could verify.
